IFon is an international federation of independent national ID-judo associations and legal guardians of people with an intellectual disability.

It is with a heavy heart that we bid farewell to a cherished patron saint: Pope Francis and his legacy in ID-Judo.

It is with great sadness that we have learned of the passing of Pope Francis. The world has not only lost a spiritual leader, but also one of the ID judo community’s greatest advocates. He was the first pope to publicly support athletes with intellectual disabilities, bestowing his personal blessing on the first Para-Judo World Championships (ID) in 2017 in Cologne and offering his moral support to the athletes worldwide. For IFoN.World and thousands of ID judoka worldwide, his legacy remains a mission: to fight for dignity, visibility and participation.

We are sure that all nations, their federations, and ministries will join our motion and supportively work on many levels for the barrier-free implementation of the participation of intellectual impaired judoka in Paralympic competitive sport. 

The IPC has not denied our request to provide participation 

for our daughters, sons and legally supervised, more than  

10.000 ID judoka active in Paralympic judo!
